Second Life Performance

My proposal for a Second Life performance is to have our self-portrait avatars as cross dressers. This would slightly poke fun at the idea of people using Second Life to be someone they aren't because we would obiously be crossdressing while the avatars usually hide who you really are. This performance could include flirting with people and/or having objects that add to the costume.

SL Self Portrait

For this project I took three photographs and photoshoped them into a template for face tattoos in Second Life. The hair style gave me the most problems. The provided hair was difficult to style into my hair style at the time, however I usually have longer hair so I was able to edit the hair to more closely resemble how I usually look.

Art & the Avatar

1) Kris Shomaker says that her extrememly altered avatar is to help her accept her physical self. This just seems completely contradictory. Does she mean that she's trying to accept that there is nothing she can do to make herself more attractive so she has a second life to make up for it?

2) Are avatars becoming a new form of self portraits? If so, Are the avatars that don't look like the real person still self portraits?

Artist Paper

For my paper I chose to research projects by Tomas Saraceno and Mark Hauenstein.  The two are very interesting to compare because they are such complete opposites.  The works by these two artists really are the difference between “micro” and “macro”.  As with most artists, they are constantly exploring however one is seeking a goal whereas the other is rapidly moving from one idea to the next simply for the sake of learning.

Final Project

I really wanted to figure out how to make my own machinima for this assignment and it proved to be very time consuming.  I ran into quite a few technical problems and I'm sorry to say I wasn't able to do what I wanted. I just used windows movie maker for my editing and as you can see, the audio didn't sync with the video. Trial and error I suppose.

For the next part of this assignment I chose to contribute to the Johnny Cash Project. I wish I could show you a better picture of my drawing but I would have had to get a picture before I submitted it. More trial and error.
